3585 is on there too but it says it's for metro pcs....

probably not. I didnt even know it was possible to unlock a cdma phone. I thought it was only for GSM to make a gsm phone work on another network.

Any phone that is locked can be unlocked. It's the same premise but different way to go about it. CDMA phones only have one lock code (the MSL), where the GSM phones have 4 I believe. GSM phones are more easily unlocked because there is software available. CDMA phones are a bit harder to unlock because there is no software available, you have to "social engineer" the MSL out of the providers.

One might even consider calling customer service to find out if they will activate it first. I know back in the day when verizon first came out if you mentioned *nokia 6185* they wouldn't activate the phone at all, at least for me. I finally had to go into a local store and camp out until they got sick of me to get them to do the ESN change, wouldn't have been such a big deal except I had broken my phone and wasn't eligible for a new one for another 6 months.

Well, these developments definitely makes things interesting, does anyone know if US Cellular or MetroPCS set the MSL to a number other than 000000? All Verizon phones have that msl (master sublock code), except free-up phones. I'd love to get a 3585 and use it on VZW...oh, in case people don't know, for Nokia's, you can get into long NAM programming by inputting:
*3001#12345#
If the phone has a msl other than 000000, you will get prompted for it sometime after inputting that code. If it is not locked, then you can easily call VZW's OTA programming by doing *22801 or *22800 in 800mhz areas, and get the latest VZ prl. Then ask a VZ rep to change your account's esn to the new phone, and do *228xx again, this time, chose program phone instead of update prl, and this will program the phone with your mobile number.

Metro does; I don't think USCC does.

US Cellular is one of the largest cellular providers in the nation. They are the A band provider here in California in Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt, Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Plumas, Sierra and Lassen Counties. They provide TDMA, CDMA, and AMPS service, and are in the process of overlaying all their remaining TDMA areas(like California and Idaho)with CDMA. I don't care much for them, but they are okay I guess. Oh, if they don't currently carry the 6385, they will soon

Available Now at:
US Cellular -from Nokia website

US Cellular is in Eastern Washington and parts of Oregon.

Are there photos of the 6385 with its antenna fully extended?
Nokia's website doesn't have any photo like that...

Interesting. They must still be TDMA only down here in FL (the above URL is for the Gainesville, FL market)

here is a zip for a cdma market

61410

something interesting is that they have already started selling cdma handsets in tdma markets so they will be ready when cdma is launched. poor people are stuck in analog untill cdma is launched though

and i say this because i have had customers come into my store and show me their us cellular cdma phone that they bought in rural oklahoma.

I have gotten some US Cellular 5185's before for really cheap and they were not subsidy locked.

US Cellular will take over PrimeCo's 1900mhz band right here in Chicago on November 12, 02.

Does anyone know if Verizon is testing this phone or considering adding it to their line-up? I'm looking to replace my LG-TM510 very soon. I have a 6360 with AT&T prepaid and I think the phone is wonderful. I would love a CDMA version, but I'm not crazy about the idea of trying to use an unsupported phone with my primary service on Verizon, so I want to know if Verizon will offer this phone soon.

Thanks.

Why VZ won't carry it: Nokia CDMA Phones are junk. Actually, Most Nokia phones are junk. Poor at being a PHONE. I'm surprised they even carry the 5185i, but they do, and it's a poor seller for them. Most people looking for a low end phone take the free Kyocera or the V.120c, which are light years ahead of Nokia...

The Nokia 6385 is NOT a Triband.....No Analog......Maybe Verizon still wants analog in certain markets........

This was copied directly from nokiausa.com

Service
CDMA 800 / 1900 MHz, AMPS

it has an analog side. that doesn't mean it still isn't a nokia cdma phone *junk* but it has an analog side nonetheless.

Here is the whole story:

US Cellular is slowly converting to CDMA around their markets. The East coast is CDMA, and so is the Midwest (Iowa and Illinois at least).

Verizon probably will not carry the phone just for the fact that they never have good luck with Nokia products and they are trending towards more feature-filled phones with colored screens and smaller dimensions.

A CDMA phone can be subsidy locked with a six digit code (called an SPC <service provider code> or MSL <master subsidy lock> ). The US Cellular 6385s are NOT sublocked, so you are able to use them on Verizon if you so choose. I have purchased one and will have it active by Monday.

To activate one of these phones on vzw I would go through *3001#12345# programming and set the proper home SID, MIN, MDN, etc. I would then call Verizon and make the ESN change...I highly recomend saying that the phone is a 3285, for the simple fact that I don't know how CSRs would react to the activation of a 6385. The ESN will probably need to be loaded for the phone to be activated. If they want you to try a different ESN, tell them you bought the (3285) on ebay and don't have another one available.

To program the phone OTA you will need to dial *22801...*228 doesn't seem to work out of the box. I would hypothesize that once the Verizon PRL is loaded that *228 will work fine.

If you have questions about this process, just PM me.

And if you are interested in this phone, here is a link to the guy I bought mine from

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=wicellman&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=25

I AM NOT THE SELLER OF THE PHONE. The seller is a gentleman named Norm that was very easy to deal with (he drove an hour to make the exchange in person without even hesitating).

Questions....let me know!
